Looking for a nearby alternative to our usual restaurants a quick web search threw up the Chilli Pepper. The reviews were favourable (as was the website) so I booked a table (Saturday evening). First impression was concern, the lack customers (10 covers all night) on what should have been their busiest night of the week had alarm bells ringing - The place seemed lifeless. On a cold, wet Autumnal evening the last thing we should have expected was to enter a cold restaurant and it didn't get much warmer, the toilets were freezing. What didn't help was a small tv, in the bar, showing "X Factor". The reception from the staff was a little cold as well. The food was adequate though expensive (very little imagination), the service was too quick (they were talking the plates away while I was still chewing my last mouthful) and not once were we asked whether we enjoyed the course. For the clientele that they seem to want to attract we would have expected something a little better that small paper napkins, uncomfortable seats and clumsy tables (I couldn’t get my legs under ours). A poor menu layout and meagre wine list only seemed to compound the inadequacies - and what cheek to point out that “Service wasn’t include”. I’d be very surprised, unless things change, that this establishment will be around in 12 months. 2 starters, 2 main courses and 1 dessert and drinks £16, plus service charge - £90

I came upon road sign saying chilli pepper outside lechlade on the A361.Looking for some lunch and intrigued by the name ,and sounding more interesting than the usual pub style names and food (I hoped) we gave it a go. When we arrived it looked from the outside like another pub. We parked in their very spacious carpark (luckily)and entered into a cosy stone floor reception and bar area. The whole restaurant was immaculate and quite a change from Yew old local pub atmosphere.(Sorry typical Londoner comment, this place would not have looked out of place in Chelsea). We ordered drinks at the bar and looked at the menu. A set 2 course lunch for £14.95 did not unreasonable. When it was time to eat we were seated in this beautifully restore wood beamed high ceilinged room. A very cosy atmosphere, definately one for valentines night. We passed a consevatory dining area which looked out onto a very large garden set with tables for warmer days. This was being used by families. Nice idea as not all of us like little Johnny running round as you eat. Also they had a dining room just for smokers. Food arrived , the two of us had the grilled goats cheese on a bed of salad, this was simply served and came with a warm bread roll, and butter.Good size portion. Main couse we both fancied the grilled chicken marinated in lime. Came to the table piping hot and served with homemade mash , broccoli and carrots. The chicken was really juicy and very zesty. In fact the menu was very clear and not written in Franglais.(hurray) We followed up with tiramisu, and I had vanilla ice cream in a brandy basket with warm berries. Really yummy. This was followed by expresso coffee from the Italian machine I had seen previously in the bar area. Cant really comment about the drink as I was driving, but enjoyed a pint of IPA. The service and staff very very efficient in a not in your face kind of way. Looks like they have done this before. We will be returning.
