we went to angelo's at the crooked billet the first week in december 2009,There was several Christmas partys in the main restaurant venue so we decided to eat in the back end of the pub, The food was first class and the service was exceptional, must recommend the fillet steak rossini

Disaster! We went to Angelos (now moved to Kingswood - The Crooked Billet) a few months ago with friends and had a fantastic meal in the restaurant. I made a reservation for Tuesday evening to meet my daughter for a birthday treat - confirming on the telephone that we would have a table in the restaurant. When we arrived we were seated in the 'upper bar' area in the pub and the restaurant was in darkness. As it was quiet we went along with this and our starter (garlic prawns) was very good - but it was all downhill from there. We had the worse steaks we had ever tasted, full of gristle (hidden by the sauce). We complained and the price of one steak was removed from our bill. Then one of the staff switched on the TV that was right in front of our table (who wants to watch TV in a restaurant?). It was like going out for a pub meal rather than for a treat to an Italian restaurant. The prices were restaurant prices - around £8 for a starter and £14-£17 for main. One good meal, one poor - perhaps Angelo only works at weekends. We will not be returning. Patricia, Bicester 1 Sept 09

I have been ging to Angelo's restaurants for some 25 years, all our special occasions were held there, so when my daughter reached her 40th where else would we go but Oh! dear what a let down. From the lack of choice particularly starters, to the blackboard desserts this is not the Angelos we have always enjoyed. Microwaved new potatoes, broccoli and carrots ( tiny portions), to my husbands veal which consisted of 4 razor thin medallions that would not have made a good sandwich. Come on!! we know you can do better.

Another trip to Angelo's meant more superb food to be eaten, and there was lots of that!! Food, company staff and the chef all firt class no complaints from the BROWN family!

Another superb night at Angelos (9.08.08) Food is out of this world, excellant chefs and service is just as good. Staff are very helpful and will do anything they can you make an evening very speacial what ever the occasion.

I have never ever felt the urge to complain about a restaurant before (I am now 42). The service was abysmal, food cold (when it finally arrived) and tasteless and I can assure you I will not be returning.

I read the reviews before trying this restaurant. Having booked my mothers 80th birthday there I did not know whether I had made the right choice. I have to say that all the staff were very helpful and made my mothers birthday an enjoyable day. I would just say don't just read the reviews try it for yourself. you will not be disappointed. The food is as good as what it always has been. As for one of the reports about the peppered steak what absolute rubbish I had this dish and it was brilliant. If you don't like peppercorns don't order peppered steak.

Absolutely excellent food. could never fault it in any way, the staff are very proffesional and i eat there at least once a week. The food is very fairly priced and those who say that this restaurant is overpriced need to eat in mcdonalds if they cant afford to pay for good quality food.Only those who are worried about the competition would criticise this restaurant.

Having dined at Angelo\\\'s both on Saturday and then again on Fathers Day I just have to say what a wonderful experience. The food and the service was superb and being able to sit on the covered decking area having drinks all of us commented on what a relaxing and enjoyable atmosphere. We would certainly not hesitate going again and again. Highly recommended,

A mixed opinion of the staff, at points friendly and accommodating at other points abrupt especially when we asked to have our drinks on separate tabs, this appeared to be an unwelcome complication which set things off on to a poor start. It took longer than expected to have our starters but mains followed promptly after. Making a choice on the menu was tricky, the options archaic (scampi for example) and my chosen dish did not arrive looking appetising, steak with peppercorn sauce with so many peppercorns it was hard to take a mouthful and not choke with the shock! This apparently has been a dish on the menu for 33 years, I suggest it is time to retire this one. The sweet trolley left a lot to be desired, choice was limited and the Tiramisu looked like the remains of the last dish had been slopped on the top. When I worked in an Italian restaurant the kitchen porter (me) would get to finish the leftovers, not the customers. I was glad that the sweet trolley was out for all to see as I felt slightly weary of commenting in case of unpleasant consequences onto my next dish. The décor is disappointing, finishing touches like laminated menu cards, plastic charger, cheap soap in the toilets, things like this are easy to improve. A disappointment in comparison with the reviews friends had previously given the restaurant.

EXCELLENT!! I went here with my partner for my birthday in 2007. The staff were polite and happy. The food was absolutely gorgeous and to die for.. hardly any waiting between courses. Would definately go again. Thank you for a nice evening.

What a waste of money, so overpriced for what it is. The location is terrible, the actual restaurant is more like a dressed up community centre, food was overcooked and disapointing and service very standard. Would not recommend to my enemies.

Duncan Granger - 21-03-2008

Lovely food and great service. Always look forward to going. Im quite fussy about food and have yet to be disapointed. This is quite a new restaurant and the setting is under development. Tastefully done

We've eaten at their previous restaurant many times over the years and decided to try their new place at Springwood Park - particularly as they are claiming it to be "the home of international cuisine". The experience was disappointing. The location is more a village hall than a restaurant, lacking any kind of atmosphere. The service, whilst friendly and quick was "Saturday girl" amateurish. My wife, as designated driver for the evening ordered an orange juice but was given orange squash. Apparently, they didn’t have any juice – but it still appeared (fruit juice x 2) on our bill. Moving onto the food itself; the menu was pared down from their previous restaurant and was predominantly based around steak. There were no Thai dishes as advertised on their web site ("The very finest quality in Italian, Thai and traditional cuisine") which may have provided a welcome alternative. The quality of the produce appeared good but both the steaks were well-done rather than medium as requested and both were drowned in thick sauces; one Dijon and one fillet mignon, which, by the end of the evening, had made us both feel a little sick and we had to give desert a miss. Having to pay £7.00 extra for vegetables took the cost of this 2-course meal with a bottle of wine and two beers to around £45 per person. This is way too much for the standard of venue, service and food we received. The overall impression is one of trying desperately hard to provide a quality experience on an altogether too slim budget.

Absolutley Superb, cannot fault anything. Been going for many years at their previous resturants and still just as good. Service is always just as good.
